Why go to Baku
Baku mixes an old walled city with very new buildings. Walk the lanes of Icheri Sheher, the Old City, up to the Maiden Tower. Stroll along the seaside boulevard on the Caspian, and watch the Flame Towers light up at night.
Take a day trip to Gobustan for its mud volcanoes and rock carvings. Closer to the city is Ateshgah, a fire temple with old inscriptions in Sanskrit and Punjabi, left by Indian traders. Yanar Dag, a hillside that has been burning for decades, is best after dark.
Best time to visit Baku
April to June and September to October are the best months, mild and pleasant. July and August are hot, around 30 to 35°C. Winters are cold and very windy; Baku is called the city of winds.

Baku visa for Indians
eVisaLast checked October 2026
Indian passport holders need an e-visa (ASAN Visa), applied for online. A single-entry visa allows a stay of up to 30 days and usually arrives within about three working days.
Look-alike websites charge extra for the same visa. Use only the official site.
Apply only on the official site, evisa.gov.az, or through a trusted agent. Look-alike sites charge extra. Rules change, so check again before you book.
Flight time and fares from Delhi
Nonstop flights from Delhi take about 4 to 5½ hours. Indian airlines currently fly a longer route around Pakistani airspace, so their flights take longer than others on the same route.
Fares often go up for Diwali, Christmas and New Year, and for the Indian summer holidays.
Getting from the airport
The airport is about 30 minutes from the city centre by taxi. Use a ride app such as Bolt or Uber for a fair price. An airport bus also runs to the centre.
How many days you need
Three or four days covers Baku and the day trips. For a week, add Sheki or Gabala in the mountains, or combine Baku with Georgia.
Food for Indian travellers
Expect kebabs, plov and lots of bread, cheese and herbs. Vegetarians can manage with salads, lentil soup, qutab (thin flatbreads filled with greens or pumpkin) and the city’s Indian restaurants.
